I’m back…

well, not that I went anywhere. For some reason, I don’t feel like doing one of my typical blogs. It’s not that there’s nothing to write about, it’s just… damn 2 years… I’m in no hurry here. Anyhow, as far as my state of being, I’m good. The lows are very low, and the highs are tempered by the constant barrage of mosquitos in the air, critters in my drinking water, and an empty wallet. But overall, I know my purpose here, and that’s what keeps me motivated. I’ve been uploading some pictures onto facebook which you can link to on this site. Don’t get too envious or anything, those are just the highlights of the past 4 months. I also put together a little wish list and contact information for anyone interested in sending goodies from home, because you know what else motivates me? fooooooooooooood…

Once I finish training… One more week…

Just some contact info

(+592-671-7659) This is my cellphone in Guyana… (+592-638-2893) this is my other one… why I need two? All will be revealed.

This is AWESOME!!!

Here I am at the Peace Corps office in Georgetown, Guyana, taking advantage of the wi-fi and air conditioned lounge. We’re heading out this afternoon via speedboat to the Essiquibo coast to meet the host families and continue training. We made cards for the families to identify us by, and I labled mine “Asian dude dancing like a chicken”… I guess I’ll be dancing like a chicken this afternoon. Everything has been amazing so far, but I don’t have time to talk about it right now. Peace Out!

Here we go again!

I just found something that reminds me that tomorrow isn’t the first day of this adventure. Looking around the house for a blank book to start a Peace Corps journal, I came across one that already had some writing on the first page. On top were the words written “Change Your Life” followed by the date 2/6/07 and a vague checklist of things needed for the initial Peace Corps online application. A single lonely entry. I had totally forgotten about this book and it was almost shocking to see. Had it really been that long ago that I started taking the steps toward becoming a Peace Corps volunteer? Well, somewhere along the way, I let this idea fall by the wayside and ended up travelling overseas for 14 months and having more fun than one person deserves to have. But I’m not one to simply abandon life goals… procrastinate, yes – forget, maybe – abandon, no. Fast forward nearly exactly 3 years from that journal entry, fast forward through 3 years of ups and downs, happy days and sad days, hellos and goodbyes, a tedious yearlong application process, and I’m on the edge of tomorrow, when I fly to NYC for the staging event. I’m hardly even done packing, but there’s no rush. I still have tomorrow morning.
